<p>This project was elaborated by HPC’s former sub sidiary UNICONSULT Universal Transport Consulting GmbH. Both companies combi ned their competencies and services in the course of a merger in July 2017.< br /> As one of the major European Structural Funds, the European Regional D evelopment Fund (ERDF) consolidates economic, social and territorial cohesio n in the EU - in economically weak as well as in strong regions. In Hamburg, the ERDF is pursuing the goal of "investing in growth and employment" for t he 2014 to 2020 period, and supports targeted innovations and sustainable gr owth. The joint project of Hamburg Port and Logistics AG (HHLA) and HPE Hybr idport Energy GmbH & Co. KG (HPE) will help to create an efficient, envi ronmentally-friendly, safe and economical electricity and heat supply for HH LA's three container terminals. For this purpose, an LNG hybrid barge will p roduce a part of the energy demand for electricity and heat independently, d ecentrally and efficiently between mid-September and mid-May as a co-generat ion plant for HHLA. The investment costs for the construction of the facilit ies / infrastructure are expected to be subsidized proportionally through ER DF funding.</p>

<p>The World Bank Group considers infrastructure dev elopment to be critical to achieving economic growth and reducing poverty. S eaport developments in particular may have a substantial economic impact as they allow for increased traffic and cheaper and faster transport. The World Bank’s International Finance Corporation (IFC) provides support for the s eaports sector with 52 investments in 20 countries and a total commitment of USD 2.2 billion in own account financing. In order to be able to assess the economic impact of its port projects, World Bank/IFC engaged HPC and Hambur gisches WeltWirtschaftsInstitut gGmbH (HWWI) to develop a model and tool for the ex-ante assessment of the economic impact of seaports projects in terms of GDP and job creation.</p>

<p>The privatization of 12 Greek ports marked a corn erstone in the country's process of transferring state-owned assets to priva te investors. The overriding task of the project was to assess the Greek por ts considered to be of national interest, identifying those, which are of in terest to the private sector. Subsequently these assets were structured to a ddress market requirements in order to maximize the value to the Hellenic Re public. The future organization of all port assets was hereby analysed in de tail in the course of Greek's new National Port Strategy. On the basis of th e political consensus on the future port strategy, the privatisation of the Ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki has been initiated. The Port of Piraeus ha s been successfully privatised in 2016, while the privatisation of the port of Thessaloniki is expected to be completed in 2017. HPC provided continuous assistance in the transaction processes of the two ports including, amongst others, assistance in the preparation of all relevant tender documents and in planning the negotiation strategy.</p>

<p>This project was elaborated by HPC’s former sub sidiary UNICONSULT Universal Transport Consulting. Both companies combined t heir competencies and services in the course of a merger in July 2017.</p>
<p>The German Federal Government desired to strengthen the German aviation i ndustry with the help of an air transport concept. The concept needed to con sider at least three development trends that were gaining more and more impo rtance, such as the needs of the residents in the vicinity of airports inclu ding the general requirement to protect the environment, the fiscal aspects including taxes for air transport and the upcoming trade of emission rights as well as the rising competitive pressure from foreign airlines and hub air ports (especially from Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Istanbul).</p>

<p>For the maritime industry worldwide, energy susta inability has become an important topic not only to meet increasingly strict environmental regulations but especially as a means of improving profitabil ity. Against this background the Client has awarded HPC to develop a structu red, model-based approach that can be used by ports and terminals to identif y suitable measures to increase their energy sustainability and thus improve their environmental compatibility and profitability. As a result, the proje ct paves the way for prosperous logistics service provision,which is in line with community and environmental requirements. A central project result is a simulation and lifecycle assessment model to configure the logistics and e nergy consumption of a port or terminal.</p>

<p>Guyana shares its borders with two northern Brazi lian states, Roraima and Para, and has traditional ties with the state of Am azonas. In the light of currently limited trade activities, the governments of both countries have been working towards their enhancement of trade, econ omic and physical integration. One means of integration may be the establish ment of a Land Transport Link connecting Guyana, Roraima and Amazonas, to fa cilitate foreign trade between Guyana and Brazil on the one hand and the tra nsit of cargo to/from the landlocked states Roraima and Amazonas via a futur e deep-water port in Guyana. Against this background, IDB contracted HPC to establish the size and volume of the shipping market in Guyana as well as th e potential cargo to/from the Brazilian states Amazonas and Roraima that may be diverted to a deep-water port in Guyana.</p>

<p>Rostock Port GmbH owns and manages various cargo hand ling and cruise terminals in the seaport of Rostock, Germany, one of the mos t important ferry and RoRo ports in the Baltic Sea region, which is connecte d to the Sea via an artificial approach channel. In view of the forecasted g rowth in vessel volumes and sizes, Rostock Port expects an increasing utiliz ation of the approach channel, which may become a bottleneck for the port le ading to disturbances of vessel traffic. Against this background, Rostock Po rt has assigned HPC Hamburg Port Consulting to conduct a study, assessing to day’s and future capacity of the approach channel and determining efficien t operational and constructional measures to improve its performance, both b y means of HPC’s simulation tool MARINEsim.</p>

<p>This project was elaborated by HPC’s former sub sidiary UNICONSULT Universal Transport Consulting. Both companies combined t heir competencies and services in the course of a merger in July 2017.The Fe deral Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) launched a fun ding initiative named “Innovative port technologies (IHATEC)” to optimiz e cargo and passenger handling in German ports as well as their hinterland t raffic. Not only did the project focus on the improvement of the port termin als’ handling performances and traffic flows in general but also aimed at avoiding traffic jams and bottlenecks at and between the ports’ terminals. UNICONSULT supported the clients by identifying two suitable projects withi n HHLA group, developed related concepts and prepared the grant applications . The project “Container Terminal 4.0” was the first application BMVI se lected for funding. This project aimed at finding solutions for the interact ion of human workforce and automated handling facilities in commonly used wo rkspaces, which had not yet been shared for safety reasons. Given the projec t’s high correspondence with the funding objectives, the Ministry granted an amount of EUR 1.5m for the period from 2017 to 2019 for “Container Term inal 4.0”.</p>

<p>Based on an investment agreement HPC Ukraina and Odessa Commercial Sea Port Administration jointly constructed the extension of the Quarantine Mole container terminal in order to increase its container handling capacity by 600,000 TEU per year. Odessa Commercial Sea Port provi ded 650 m quay wall and apron, a breakwater and dredging works. HPC Ukraina' s investment programme had a volume of about USD 90m and consisted of four l ots for reclamation of about 20 ha terminal area and construction of souther n and northern embankments, pavement and drainage works, installation of HT (35KV) feed line and MT/LT (6.0/0.4KV) grids, transformer stations and light ing system, and installation of three super post panamax STS container crane s. HPC was awarded the contract for elaboration of tender documents, tender evaluation, assistance in contract negotiations and supervision of construct ion for all lots.</p>

Support in the Application and Project Management Process of the "Collaborative Project LNG Hybrid Barge"
The Challenge
This project was elaborated by HPC’s former subsidiary UNICONSULT Universal Transport Consulting GmbH. Both companies combined their competencies and services in the course of a merger in July 2017. As one of the major European Structural Funds, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) consolidates economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU - in economically weak as well as in strong regions. In Hamburg, the ERDF is pursuing the goal of "investing in growth and employment" for the 2014 to 2020 period, and supports targeted innovations and sustainable growth. The joint project of Hamburg Port and Logistics AG (HHLA) and HPE Hybridport Energy GmbH & Co. KG (HPE) will help to create an efficient, environmentally-friendly, safe and economical electricity and heat supply for HHLA's three container terminals. For this purpose, an LNG hybrid barge will produce a part of the energy demand for electricity and heat independently, decentrally and efficiently between mid-September and mid-May as a co-generation plant for HHLA. The investment costs for the construction of the facilities / infrastructure are expected to be subsidized proportionally through ERDF funding.
