Simulation Analysis Study for Fully Automated Truck Handover at CTA
Challenge
Hamburg’s CTA Container Terminal Altenwerder investigated a fully automated interchange between trucks and automated stacking cranes (ASC) requiring a reduction in truck interchange lanes from 4 to 3 per block. HPC simulated possible consequences for the truck traffic flow.
Tasks Performed
- Review and analysis of present terminal landside operations
- Determination of reasonably tested traffic and volume scenario
- Implementation of a highly accurate and flexible landside terminal simulation model in HPC’s terminal simulation tool
- Simulation analysis quantifying landside service level to assess feasibility of fully automated ASC handover to external trucks
- Summary of all study results in the Simulation Analysis Report
- Presentation of study results to CTA’s management
Benefit
HPC elaborated and assessed all significant process and traffic flow changes by simulation, thus preparing CTA for the change.
