Specification of IT Requirements for the fully Automated Greenfield Webb Dock Container Terminal
Challenge
VICT was awarded the concession to develop and operate the Webb Dock Container Terminal in Melbourne. The facility was to be developed into a state-of-the-art terminal featuring an unmatched degree of automation on the Australian waterfront. The proposed terminal will inter alia feature semi-automated ship-to-shore cranes, fully-automated shuttle carriers and stacking cranes. For the operation of fully-automated terminals a smoothly-functioning IT is the most important success factor. HPC specified the IT requirements for all systems necessary to operate the fully-automated container terminal, as well as the adjacent empty park. Based on the BPMN 2.0 process specification and the IT landscape, the IT requirements for the Terminal Operating System (TOS), the Gate Operating System (GOS) and the fully-automated and semi-automated container handling equipment were specified.
