Master Plan for SPRBUN Terminal in Buenaventura
Challenge
The Port of Buenaventura is Colombia's main port on the Pacific Ocean and largest container port for import/export cargo. Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura S.A. (SPRBUN) operates the Terminal Maritimo, Buenaventura's largest port facility for containers, general cargo, dry bulk and liquid bulk. In order to increase its capacity, competitiveness and profitability, SPRBUN appointed HPC to develop an integrated Master Plan for the expansion of its Terminal Maritimo.
Tasks Performed
- Analyse the market and competition with regard to containers, general cargo, RoRo, dry bulk and liquid bulk
- Long-term projection of the traffic potential for containers, general cargo, RoRo, dry bulk and liquid bulk
- Assess the existing terminal layout and operational situation
- Prepare a terminal development plan, including terminal layout design, equipment requirements, operations procedures and staffing requirements
- Prepare a phased development concept in accordance with the traffic demand
- Review organisational aspects of terminal management and operations
- Assess investment and operating costs and projection of revenues
- Assess the commercial viability of the proposed terminal expansion
