INTERACt – Integration of Autonomous Trucks into Operations of Modern Container Terminals
Challenge
For this project, HPC and their partners investigated the possibilities to deploy autonomous trucks primarily designed for autonomous driving on public roads on container terminals, too.
Tasks Performed
- Carry out an analysis of the technical, operational, legal and safety/security related requirements for the vehicles, the vehicle operators and the terminals
- Research of the current and the foreseeable state of the art of autonomous trucks and automated container terminals
- Definition of suitable application scenarios for autonomous driving on container terminals
- Assessment of the feasibility of autonomous driving based on the scenarios defined
- Identification of gaps that currently prevent the feasibility
- Systematization of the gaps found and development of a roadmap
Benefit
HPC systemized the gaps that had prevented autonomous trucks on terminals so far and developed a roadmap of necessary development issues.
