Simulating Ship Arrivals in Hamburg to Quantify Traffic Improvement through Access Control

Simulating Ship Arrivals in Hamburg to Quantify Traffic Improvement through Access Control

Challenge

The Hamburg Vessel Coordination Centre manages the sailing schedule of vessels calling at the Port of Hamburg. HPC was contracted to quantify the positive environmental impact of vessel coordination.

Tasks Performed

  • Analysed the relevant vessel calls and design vessels
  • Developed a comprehensive simulation model
  • Implemented all required vessel traffic rules (passing boxes, tide windows)
  • Analysed the vessel's fuel consumption
  • Reporting and presentation of results

Benefit

The simulation results offer a very accurate and reliable estimation of the positive impact of HVCC's services.
