                     whole forms the third biggest freight railway undertaking in the USA, plans
                     to redesign existing rail terminals and to develop new terminals with hub fu
                     nctionality. Recently, HPC has assisted CSXI in the design planning of a new
                      hub terminal, with the preparation of a terminal development plan. While HP
                     C’s sophisticated spreadsheet calculation models used for that development
                      plan already give good insights into planning details, simulation goes furt
                     her as it factors in dynamic effects and stochastic influences. Thus, HPC ha
                     s been asked to verify the terminal's estimated capacity, equipment requirem
                     ents and the viability of the terminal design as a whole by conducting a dyn
                     amic terminal simulation study, with particular focus on the dynamic interde
                     pendencies between yard and rail operations. For that purpose, not just the
                     terminal yard, including crane moves and stacking operations as well as truc
                     k and OTR movements are modelled in detail, but also related rail movements,
                      including train arrivals and departures, train composition and all required

                     , who is producing and exporting LNG with its own fleet of tankers, intended
                      to verify the nautical accessibility of the new berths and to validate the
                     resulting vessel service quality of the port with the expected 30% increase
                     in vessel traffic. Therefore, they contracted HPC to conduct a nautical brid
                     ge simulator study for the new berths and a vessel traffic simulation study

Challenge

Fenix engaged HPC for a greenfield project, focusing on optimizing the container railway station layout during the terminal's construction. Through collaborative workshops, HPC evaluated and compared diverse railway station layouts provided by Fenix. The analysis encompassed operational benefits, considering both railway and terminal perspectives, and quantified the capacities of each layout.

  • Evaluated railway operations for alternative layouts
  • Assessed intermediary co-utilization of loading tracks alongside the RoRo terminal & evaluated level crossing and shunting operations
  • Set up requirements of a long-term terminal development concept
  • Considered yard operations and traffic flows in the terminal
  • Capacity assessment for tracks and lifting equipment
  • Recommended on the development of railway station layouts

Benefit

HPC conceptually developed the most advantageous alternative to prepare Fenix Port Bronka for the long-term market demand in 2030. The concept focused on accommodating future growth in handling volumes, additional CFS inside the terminal area, and the anticipated rail share while providing sustainable operation means in the years to come.
