Simulation Project for Austrian Railway (ÖBB) Terminals in Wels

Simulation Project for Austrian Railway (ÖBB) Terminals in Wels

The Challenge

ÖBB was planning to upgrade their intermodal rail facility in Wels by adding new tracks and cranes. They assigned HPC to analyse the effect of those changes on the terminals’ operations, service level and capacity.

Tasks Performed

  • Collection and analysis of framework conditions and parameters
  • Refinement of new terminal concept
  • Development of a simulation model of the new terminal layout
  • Analysis of the terminal operations using the dynamic simulation model and verification of performance, capacity and support track demand

Benefit

With the simulation, HPC elaborated and quantified the interdependencies and impacts of the yard, crane, gate and shunting capacities for ÖBB to use as the basis for prioritising future development steps.
