IT System Landscape Renewal (WMS)

IT System Landscape Renewal (WMS)

Challenge

As part of the modernization of Frucht- und Kühl-Zentrum GmbH (FKZ) at Hamburg’s O’Swaldkai terminal, HPC was commissioned to support the comprehensive renewal of FKZ’s IT system landscape. FKZ serves as a key logistics hub for temperature-controlled fruit imports, particularly bananas. The company operates automated cold storage facilities that depend on seamless interaction between its Warehouse Management System (WMS), ERP system, and automation technology.

Since the existing custom-built WMS was no longer supported, FKZ decided to transition to a modern, standard software solution. To ensure operational continuity and prepare for future scalability, HPC was engaged to guide the selection, procurement, and design of the next-generation WMS and IT system landscape.

HPC’s experts began by analyzing the existing (“As-Is”) business processes, developed optimized (“To-Be”) process models, and identified required adjustments to the IT architecture. Considering the increasing cybersecurity demands for critical infrastructure in Germany, HPC also developed a comprehensive system specification for the new WMS, forming the basis for selecting a suitable IT provider.

Tasks Performed

  • Project management
  • Analyzed required changes to the IT system landscape
  • Facilitated interviews and workshops about technical, organizational, functional and interface requirements
  • Modeling of As-Is and To-Be processes in BPMN 2.0 standard
  • IT architecture design and development of IT system specification
  • Support in tender preparation

Benefit

Through its strategic and technical support, HPC enabled FKZ to modernize its IT system landscape efficiently and securely. By modeling optimized processes and defining clear system requirements, HPC delivered a comprehensive IT system specification that served as a robust foundation for software selection and future implementation.
