Terminal Expansion Planning & Financial Analysis for Rail Terminal Wolfurt

The Challenge

Austria’s federal railways (ÖBB) asked HPC to develop different integration options for two adjacent areas in the existing terminal, urgently required for the operational business of their rail facility in Wolfurt.

Tasks Performed

• Site visit: collected relevant data, defined planning parameters
• Assessed current terminal capacity and processes, identified bottlenecks and recommended optimisation measures without terminal expansion
• Developed and compared layout options and integrated operations concepts for additional areas without operational disruptions, incl. traffic flows and operational procedures
• Provided a financial analysis and derived recommendations for a phased terminal development

Benefit 

HPC helped prepare a phased development plan until the new area is available and identified the most viable option for using the extra space.
