Preparing Baltic Sea Ports for Alternative Marine Fuels
Decarbonizing maritime transport requires new fuel solutions. Hydrogen derivatives such as methanol and ammonia are expected to become important components of future maritime energy supply chains. However, many ports still face fundamental questions: How will the market develop? What infrastructure will be required? How can investments be assessed from an economic perspective? Which safety and regulatory requirements must be met? How can bunkering operations be organised in the future?
H2Deri@BSP provides a shared knowledge base and decision-making framework to help ports across the Baltic Sea Region address these challenges. The H2-Derivatives@BalticSeaPorts (H2Deri@BSP) project supports ports in safely, efficiently and sustainably preparing for the future handling, storage and bunkering of hydrogen derivatives such as methanol and ammonia. Led by Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM), partners from across the Baltic Sea Region are working together to develop practical solutions that enable the maritime energy transition.
HPC is responsible for the overall project coordination and financial management of the consortium. In this role, HPC facilitates collaboration among international partners, ensures compliance with programme requirements and supports the efficient implementation of project activities.
