Connecting Practice and Research: HPC Joins the International Association of Maritime Economists

HPC has joined the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), strengthening its ties to the global research community shaping evidence-based progress in ports, shipping, and logistics.

HPC is represented within IAME by Dr. Stephan Hofmann, Christina Prieser, Dr. Elisabeth Schoppmann, Dr. Darren Fraser, and Vinay Bhandari — all accomplished transport economists with extensive experience across the maritime and logistics sectors. Their participation reflects HPC’s commitment to bridging academic insight and practical implementation in port and transport economics.

“IAME’s community is a real public good for our sector. By promoting rigorous, collaborative research — and by fostering healthy competition without turning scholarship into league tables — IAME elevates the quality of evidence that guides investment, policy, and operations. For clients and partners, that translates into better productivity, resilience, and ultimately greater wealth creation across maritime economies. We’re proud to contribute and to bring practice and research even closer together,” said Dr. Stephan Hofmann, Manager Commercial Team at HPC.

Advancing Maritime Knowledge through Collaboration

IAME unites maritime economists and industry experts from around the world, connecting leading research institutions and practitioners across all continents. The association promotes innovative research, facilitates collaboration, and encourages constructive competition that drives intellectual progress. Through its close links to leading academic journals — Maritime Policy & Management and Maritime Economics & Logistics — IAME supports the exchange of new insights across the global maritime community.

It also maintains partnerships with international organizations such as the United Nations, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the International Maritime Statistics Forum (IMSF), promoting a global perspective on maritime and transport economics.

Bridging Research and Practice

By joining IAME, HPC reinforces its position at the interface between applied research and consulting practice. The exchange with the academic community will enrich HPC’s perspective on evolving trends in maritime and transport economics and foster a more informed dialogue between research, policy, and industry. In turn, HPC’s project experience from ports and logistics operations worldwide contributes practical insights that help translate theory into measurable progress for the sector.
