Autonomous railcars - Workshop and Concept review

Autonomous railcars - Workshop and Concept review

Challenge

Our client, an innovative technology company in the rail logistics sector, is pioneering the development of autonomous railcars to shift freight from road to rail and significantly reduce truck traffic over short- and medium-distance routes. After several years of intensive research, technical development, and successful pilot operations, the company was ready to take the next step towards commercial deployment. HPC supported this transformation by designing and facilitating a strategic workshop to identify the most promising use cases, analyze the current operational setup ("As-Is"), define future ("To-Be") business processes, and outline requirements for a scalable, future-ready IT landscape.

Tasks Performed

  • Three-day workshop with stakeholders and HPC
  • Identification of relevant use cases for autonomous railcars
  • Modeling of current (As-Is) and future (To-Be) business processes
  • Analysis of the existing and definition of a future IT landscape
  • Development of an initial roadmap for deployment
  • Review of concept documents and recommendations on governance and integration strategies

Benefit

HPC defined use cases for autonomous railcars, To-Be business processes and developed a concept for the target IT landscape — providing a strong foundation for successful commercial deployment.
