Port of Newcastle Clean Energy Precinct Business Case Development

Port of Newcastle Clean Energy Precinct Business Case Development

Challenge

The Port of Newcastle is undergoing a strategic transformation, shifting from fossil fuels to becoming a global hub for clean energy exports. At the heart of this transition is the Clean Energy Precinct (CEP), a major investment designed to support the production, storage, and export of green hydrogen and ammonia. To advance this vision, the port engaged HPC to develop the business case for the CEP. With this project, HPC provided the insight and strategy to de-risk the CEP, attract investment, and lead in clean energy exports.

Tasks Performed

  • Evaluated global green ammonia demand, competitors, and growth potential
  • Proposed a commercial strategy
  • Analyzed production, storage, and export economics to Europe and Asia
  • Compared full-landlord and joint-venture models and provided projected financials for each CEP case

Benefit

HPC provided the insight and strategy to de-risk the CEP, attract investment, and lead in clean energy exports.
