Planning Support for Onshore Power Supply Systems (OPS)
Challenge
The Rijeka Port Authority engaged HPC to assist with the planning and specification process for developing the technical solution for the Onshore Power Supply (OPS) installation and grid connections upgrade at two container terminals in the Port of Rijeka. It included an in-depth analysis of provided and evaluated data from Rijeka port for the determination and calculation of electric capacity and electrical demand for each terminal.
Tasks Performed
- Determining the required capacity of the OPS system based on vessel requirements
- Defining the required grid connection capacity and features, and determining the necessary upgrades to the existing grid connections for OPS systems
- Calculating the investment costs for OPS systems and upgrade of grid connections
- Developing a timeline for the installation of the OPS systems and grid connection upgrades
- Identifying the precise locations at each terminal where the OPS systems should be installed
Benefit
The client received a comprehensive technical evaluation and budget determination for potential systems at the quay edge for connecting ships to the onshore power system (OPS). The OPS investment could be co-financed by EU programs. HPC prepared a detailed description of all technical aspects, including cost calculations and an implementation plan for the necessary application.
