Mesaieed Industrial City Container Transport Optimisation Study

Mesaieed Industrial City Container Transport Optimisation Study

Challenge

QP approached HPC to improve their container transport concept and reduce container transportation costs between their producing entities (PE) in Mesaieed and Hamad Port. The main task comprised identifying the most efficient concept, incl. investigating direct transports by road or feeder vessel and combined solutions by road, feeder and rail. In addition, all solutions included the supply of empty containers to the PE by road from Doha.

Tasks Performed

  • Detailed analysis of existing processes and in-depth evaluation of inputs from PEs, subcontractors and customs
  • Close coordination with all stakeholders on working & management levels
  • Determined costs per category for PEs (labour, equipment, etc.)
  • Developed four alternative container transport scenarios under consideration of required investments for implementing each scenario
  • Calculated Capex and Opex and developed a rating matrix system, including financial and qualitative aspects for comparison and evaluation of the transport scenarios

Benefit

HPC identified the most efficient container transport concept for several producing companies and the regional port and created visibility of transport processes by comparing costs and benefits
