Data Analytics for Vessel Voyages

Challenge

HVCC provides operational coordination services for the arrival of vessels in the port of Hamburg, rotation planning within the port, and departure after handling. Large amounts of data are recorded and stored; however, they could be more efficiently used for measuring business value and sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs). Currently, extensive manual work is required to indicate business value and sustainability. As a solution, HPC developed a Business Intelligence (BI) app to make HVCC’s impact measurable on schedule optimization (i.e. reduction of travel time), which directly impacts environmental benefits. 

Tasks Performed

•  Defined requirements for BI use cases with the customer
•  Developed the BI data integration (load scripts)
•  Developed the BI user interface

Benefit

Through the creation of the BI app, HPC provided the Client with automated KPIs and trend analyses, empowering them to track their most recent achievements on a daily basis.
