HPC-led joint venture awarded equipment advisory mandate for Port of Mogadishu

HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has been appointed to support the next phase of equipment investments at the Port of Mogadishu, Somalia's primary maritime gateway. The assignment covers advisory and supervision services for the procurement and implementation of key port assets, including mobile harbour cranes, reachstackers, cargo control equipment and maintenance management systems.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance cargo handling capabilities, operational efficiency and asset management at the port. Under the mandate, HPC will support the Mogadishu Port Authority in reviewing technical specifications and tender documentation, evaluating bids, monitoring contractual milestones and overseeing the implementation of selected equipment investments. The scope also includes advisory services related to maintenance management systems and spare parts management.

The project is being executed by a joint venture between HPC and Sellhorn Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, combining port operations and equipment expertise with civil engineering capabilities.

"These investments are an important step in strengthening the port's operational capabilities and supporting future growth. Ensuring that equipment is selected, procured and implemented in a structured and transparent manner is critical to achieving the intended operational benefits," said Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur, Director General Mogadishu Port Authority.

While the assignment focuses on equipment-related investments, it also highlights the importance of aligning new assets with operational requirements and long-term performance objectives.

"Modern equipment alone does not create a high-performing terminal," said Ehab Habib, Vice President Middle East & Africa at HPC. "The challenge is ensuring that new assets are effectively integrated into day-to-day operations, maintenance processes and digital systems. When these elements work together, ports can realize the full value of their investments and achieve lasting performance improvements."

The award builds on HPC's ongoing cooperation with the Mogadishu Port Authority as part of the port's wider development programme. In addition to equipment-related activities, HPC has supported the authority through technical, operational and advisory services across a range of modernization initiatives.
