My Internship Experience
Hi, I’m Marvin and I completed a three-month internship (February–April) in the Operations Team at Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC). With an academic background in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, HPC gave me the opportunity to gain deep insights into the port industry – a critical pillar of global supply chains.
Throughout my internship, I was involved in both strategic and operational projects. I worked closely with the Vice President for the Americas region on a strategic analysis of selected countries, supporting the development of market insights and recommendations for HPC’s regional positioning. In addition, I contributed to a feasibility study by supporting the commercial team with market research and a throughput forecast for a planned port infrastructure project.
On the operations side, I supported the team in the daily project business, preparing presentations, conducting analyses, and helping develop client deliverables. I also had the opportunity to actively shape and contribute to internal and external initiatives, particularly in the area of automation.
One of the highlights of my internship was presenting to a Latin American business delegation as part of the “Partnering in Business with Germany” initiative by the BMWK, where I spoke about automation trends in port logistics. Another memorable moment was attending the company-wide Strategy Meeting, where all Excellence Clusters and global regions presented their strategic focus areas. Additionally, I visited the CTA Terminal in Hamburg twice, which gave me valuable first-hand insights into port operations and automation technologies in action.
The company culture at HPC is outstanding – international, collaborative, and strongly focused on learning and professional development. From day one, I received personalized support and mentoring tailored to my interests and goals, which made this experience not only professionally enriching but also personally motivating.
Overall, my internship at HPC was a deeply rewarding experience that strengthened my interest in the intersection of port operations, strategy, and international supply chains.
