DigiRemote 2030

Fit for the Future of Port Work

The DigiRemote2030 project, led by ma-co in collaboration with HPC, is dedicated to shaping future-ready workplaces in ports. Practical partners include HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG and GHB Gesamthafenbetriebs-Gesellschaft m.b.H., ensuring a strong foundation for the project’s implementation.

The focus is on training and developing port workers for digital remote workplaces, particularly in operational equipment control. This includes the use of remote control stations for operating automated container cranes.

As the third-largest port in Europe, the Port of Hamburg has continuously evolved since its establishment in 1189, adapting to global trends. In response to the transformative impact of digitalization and automation on port processes, the DigiRemote2030 project seeks to lay the groundwork for a modern work environment. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and flexibility while fostering employee qualifications in automation processes.

Project Duration
October 2024 to September 2027

Project Goals

  • Qualification for remote work positions
  • Implementation of a personnel development strategy
  • Development of new training methods and training concepts
  • Qualification of operational employees
  • Improvement of workplace safety and health protection
  • Preparing employees for future competencies
  • Ensuring the long-term competitiveness of the Port of Hamburg

Project Approach

DigiRemote is aimed at the operational employees of the port industry, who are trained on a specialized remote simulator. This simulator closely resembles the remote control station of an automated container crane of the future. Through this training, bridge crane operators from conventional container cranes are prepared for tomorrow’s remote control operations, ensuring a smooth and efficient transition to the new workplaces.

We are shaping the future of port operations!
