HPC was established on 21 December 1976 as one of HHLA’s first subsidiaries at Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) in Hamburg.
From the start, HPC focused on turning terminal expertise into solutions for global logistics challenges. Today, it supports ports and terminals worldwide with practical, data-driven solutions.
 

Launch of major advisory and support projects for the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Saudi Arabian Seaports Authority (SEAPA).
This marked HPC’s early role in helping international partners improve efficiency and strengthen management capabilities.
 

HPC’s first terminal equipment procurement project supported the Autoridad Portuaria de Corinto with container gantry cranes.
This also marked HPC’s first contract in Latin America.

In the following years, the Nigerian Ports Authority and SEAPA became key long-term clients.(Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau).

HPC received its first order from HHLA and signed its first contract in the Asia-Pacific region.

Founded in 1981, the Hamburg Port Training Institute (HPTI) became a subsidiary of HPC, focusing on tailored training programs for the port, logistics, and transport sectors.
It reflects HPC’s commitment to building expertise and developing skills across global operations.
 

Start of a long-term cooperation with the Port Autonome de Conakry (PAC), lasting from 1983 to 1999, highlighting HPC’s role in delivering sustained improvements in port operations.

HPC carried out its first IT consultancy project for Companhia Brasileira de Transportes e Containerização S.A.
At the same time, H.A.D.A.G. became HPC’s first shipping line client, followed by Lloyd Brasileiro, expanding its expertise beyond ports into maritime operations.

GPHA (Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority) became another major client of HPC until 2001.
At the same time, HPC signed its first contract with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, strengthening its role as a trusted partner in public sector port development.
 

HPC delivered its first airport-related project for Flughafen Frankfurt AG, developing accounting software solutions.
This marked an early step in applying HPC’s expertise beyond ports into aviation and digital systems.
 

First HHLA/HPC ISETEC project (ISETEC 205): delivery of a container control system for Eimskip Iceland Steam Ship Co. 
HPC also took over management of key functions at the Port of Freetown, Sierra Leone (1987–1993).
 

HPC launched its only project to develop a National Hydrographic Office (1988–1996). This demonstrated HPC's capability to deliver specialized, large-scale maritime infrastructure solutions.

HPC delivered its first railway project for Deutsche Eisenbahn Consult, marking an early expansion of its expertise into intermodal transport solutions.

HPC launched its first projects in Germany’s new federal states and in Eastern Europe, a key step in supporting transformation and development in emerging markets.

UNICONSULT Universal Transport Consulting was incorporated as a subsidiary of HPC, strengthening its expertise in hinterland transport and logistics consulting, enableing HPC to deliver more comprehensive, end-to-end solutions across ports, hinterland connections, and supply chains.

In 1995, HPC developed the Container Terminal Information System (CTIS), implemented in over 10 terminals worldwide.
At the same time, HPC introduced the Block Train Operations System (BTOS) for intermodal terminals, strengthening its role in delivering digital solutions to improve terminal efficiency.
 

In 1996, HPC developed the Container Repair Information System (CRIS) for HCCR, which has been in continuous operation ever since.This highlights HPC’s strength in delivering durable digital solutions that enhance efficiency in container and chassis repair.

HPC conducted its first simulation study with a container terminal gate analysis for HHLA.This markes the start of using data-driven simulations to optimize terminal operations and efficiency.

In 2000, HPC initiated the development of the container terminal “HPC Ukraina,” now HHLA Container Terminal Odessa (CTO), and acted as its initial operator.
HPC played a key role in establishing operations and IT systems, supporting the terminal’s long-term growth and efficiency.
 

HPC played a key role in planning and realizing Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA) in Hamburg, one of the world’s first fully automated terminals.

HPTI Hamburg Port Training Institute and UNICONSULT were integrated under the unified HPC brand, strengthening our market presence and enabled a more integrated approach to consulting and training services.

HPC relocated to a new office near Hamburg’s fish market, improving accessibility and providing a modern working environment. The proximity to terminal operations strengthens collaboration and reinforces HPC’s close connection to its core business.
